The method
Structural osteopathy and soft chiropractic
Ackermann College was founded by Dr. W. P. Ackermann in Stockholm in 1974 and has since trained therapists from all over the world in a method that combines structural osteopathy with soft chiropractic — focusing on identifying and treating the root cause of pain in the back, joints and muscles.
The training is aimed at practising therapists who want to deepen their understanding of pain conditions such as back pain, neck problems and headaches. The content is built on decades of clinical experience and proven practice from thousands of treated patients.
Teaching takes place in small groups of five to eight students per instructor, giving every participant the chance to develop solid practical skills. Through anatomy reviews, skeletal models, X-ray images and individual supervision, you learn to understand cause and effect in common pain conditions — and the precise treatment techniques the Ackermann method is built on.

Soft chiropractic requires careful diagnosis. The method is designed so you can mobilise blocked joints in a targeted, gentle way — without unnecessary force.
Instructive learning materials
The richly illustrated textbook “Goal-Oriented Chiropractic – Specific Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques” and digital learning materials let you revise and deepen your knowledge even after the course ends.
About the training
Course levels
Step 1
Basic course
You learn an osteopathic and chiropractic treatment concept for functional disorders of the spine and joints: biomechanics, specific diagnosis, palpation, the most effective treatment techniques and holistic treatment.
Step 2
Advanced course
After at least six months of practice, you can take the advanced course and, through a thesis, obtain the Master of Chiropractic (non-academic) diploma – proof of training in the Ackermann method spanning over 50 years.
Maintenance
Refresher course
Refresher courses we recommend at least every other year, so your theoretical knowledge and practical skills stay at the highest level in every situation.
Authorisation
Certificate of Honour course
Master students who have worked clinically according to the Ackermann method for at least three years can, after an additional course and approval, obtain the Certificate of Honour and authorised instructor status.

Extensive experience with the Ackermann Method, both in clinical practice and in treating patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
